2/14/12: And the Winners Are...Top Toys and Games of the Year

I was fortunate enough to attend Toy Fair in New York this past weekend and wanted to share the Top Toys and Games of the past Year.  This is the "OSCARS®" of the Toy Industry.  Award winners were selected with the input of consumers (on ToyAwards.org), retailers (mass and specialty), media and members of the toy industry.
And the Winners are....
LeapPad Explorer from LeapFrog Enterprises, Inc. got the coveted "Toy of the Year" Title  and was awarded Educational Toy of the Year and Preschool Toy of the Year.  I don't personally own one but have heard very good things about the LeapPad.  We personally have Leapsters from Leap Frog and our kids play with them all the time.
Recognizing an outstanding children's board, card, CD-ROM or electronic game, the Game of the Year was presented to Angry Birds Knock On Wood Game by Mattel, Inc.
Recognizing a property that has had the greatest success spreading its brand throughout the industry, Property of the Year was presented to Angry Birds™ by Rovio Entertainment Ltd/ Striker Entertainment (Licensing Agent).
This game I have personal experience with as Santa brought it to my son.  My son LOVES Angry Birds and really wanted this game.  I can attest to the fact that he loves playing with it, and when he brings it to Gymnastics to play with while waiting for Lauren I have seen a crowd of little kids around him that want to join in the fun.  He really enjoys this game and I was happy to see it win Game of the Year.  I know it was hard for Santa to find it at Christmas time.
Recognizing an outstanding toy that is distributed primarily through specialty toy retailers, the Specialty Toy of the Year was presented to HEXBUG® Nano® Hive TM Habitat Set by Innovation First Labs, Inc.
This is another toy we don't own however I did have time to meet with HEXBUG when I was at Toy Fair and was very impressed with their products.  I think my kids would love them.  The nice thing about the toy below is also that it is portable as the sides fold up and the top becomes a handle to carry the toy around.
Recognizing an outstanding toy developed for girls of any age, the Girl Toy of the Year was presented to Fijit Friends™ Interactive Figures by Mattel / Radica®.
This is another toy we don't own however I did see it's popularity around Christmas time.
Recognizing an outstanding toy developed for boys of any age, the Boy Toy of the Year was presented to Hot Wheels ® Wall Tracks ™ by Mattel, Inc.  This toy was also awarded the Innovative Toy of the Year for combining innovation and play value.
Recognizing an outstanding toy developed for infants and toddlers up to 36 months, the Infant/Toddler Toy of the Year was presented to Elefun Busy Ball Popper by Hasbro / Playskool.
We don't own either of these however the Wall Tracks do look really cool.
Activity Toy of the Year was presented to LEGO® NINJAGO Fire Temple by LEGO Systems, Inc.
Recognizing an outstanding toy that is designed for outdoor play, the Outdoor Toy of the Year was presented to Rockboard® Scooter – Mini by M.Y. Products LLC.
We also don't own either of these toys.
So what do you think?  Do you agree?  Did you have any favorite toys of the year?  Are they on the list or not?  What would your choices be?
You can look forward to more posts around Toy Fair and some cool Toys coming out this year.

  1. My favorite is Monster High always and forever. They didn't win but at least they landed a spot in the runner up list for "Girls Toys" category.

I also like the Angry Birds toy and was fortunate to buy one last Christmas for my nephew.

LOL... What quirks me up is that when I read the title of your post "And the Winners Are" I literally clicked on the link without seeing what it was. I was expecting that it was the result of the MH Doll giveaway contest which ends Feb. 14. Ahahahaha! I'm so excited to know the result of that one. :)
