Every year we go to Edaville Railroad in Carver, MA. My son loves trains and of course he loves Thomas the Tank Engine so the Day Out With Thomas event is a must see for our family. The joy on little kids faces when they see Thomas and running around yelling All Aboard is absolutely adorable. Plus there are lots of rides and fun stuff to do in addition to the train ride.

$18 for a day of fun is really affordable considering it includes rides, a play area, and a train ride. You can chose the time of your train if you buy your tickets in advance with the above link. Or you can go to Edaville and purchase tickets for the next available train that day.
You can check out all Events at Edaville here. They have a Cranberry Festival coming up that looks really fun and a Pumpkin Pageant. During the holiday season we especially like going to the Festival of Lights and they now have a Polar Express Event.
