CONTEST CLOSED: CONGRATULATIONS TO STEPHANIE FOR WINNING!
I love games that get kids talking. Recently I received TopicTalk and All About You, All About Me Fun Deck from Super Duper Publications. I think these would be perfect games to play at the beginning of school when kids are getting to know each other. Also in play groups I think they would be fun. My kids had a great time playing and I thought the games were very clever in the way they were made. Read on to win one of your very own!
The TopicTalk Conversation Card Game allows players to pick a topic card and then talk about that topic. I found even playing it with the kids they learned new things about me. We talked about things that don't come up often like times when I was a kid and things happen to me. Plus it gave both my kindergartner and my 2nd grader practice reading. I love sneaking in reading where I can.
Kids love to talk about their experiences so this is perfect. Plus it starts a dialog. With my son this is especially important as he doesn't share as much as my daughter does. I usually get one word answers when asking about school. This game allowed him to answer and elaborate on topics.
Lauren playing the game with me. She thought it was a fun game and loved learning new things about me. She especially liked when I told the story of getting a big scrape on my knee at recess as she had just got a scratch that she was upset about. It is always nice for kids to identify with a parent and realize we all went through the same things as kids.
There are questions like describe your favorite vacation, talk about a time you were sad, talk about a time you got hurt.
The game includes a Total of 205 cards (2 ½" x 3 ½") 75 topic cards 70 talk cards 30 question cards 20 doubletalk cards 10 wild cards 5 minute timer. We haven't use the timer yet but you can to give them a limit of everything from 1 to 5 minutes. I also love all of the games from Super Duper Publications as they come in such convenient packaging. This one comes in an awesome tin that makes it easy to clean up and makes the game very portable.
The other game I received is All About You, All About Me Fun Deck for Pre-K and up. It was the 2012 Creative Child Award Mom's Choice Awards. I really liked this because it allowed us to practice some basic information about themselves without them feeling like they are being tested. This would be perfect for Pre-Schoolers preparing for Kindergarten. I was just at Kindergarten orientation yesterday and they brought up many of the items that are part of the questions in this game including telephone number, home address. Plus my kids would giggle at the pictures on the cards. They are super cute.
There are also open-ended statements like, “Tell me about your friends.” which again is so fun to hear them answer. It includes 56 question cards. Just like TopicTalk it comes in an awesome little Tin.
