11/17/13: Train to Christmas Town on the Cape Cod Central Railroad

It is hard to believe but the holidays are coming sooner than you think.  We got in to the holiday spirit last night by riding the Cape Cod Central Railroad Train to Christmas Town.  Last year we rode the Polar Express and had a wonderful time so I knew this trip would be amazing also.  When we arrived we were welcomed by the Conductor who directed us to our area of the train.
 This magical journey funs Nov 22-24, 29-30 Dec 1, 6-8, 13-15, 18-23, 27-29 3:30pm, 5:30pm 7:30pm Buzzard’s Bay Depot 70 Main St. Bourne, MA

Our family loves train rides and we were excited to board.
The kids were given activity books and crayons before boarding the train.
Of course the Conductor has to punch your tickets.  He asked the kids for their name and punched their initials in to the tickets.
The kids were also given Hot Chocolate and Snickerdoodle cookies on the train ride.  What better time to show love for your sibling than the holidays.
We had bought Evan a pocket watch last year when we rode the train and he made sure to bring it with him to make sure we left on time.
The book was read during the ride.  If you are not familiar with the book, here is a summary:  It is a heartwarming tale of Janice, a little girl who looks forward to riding the Train to Christmas Town every year with her brother and Grandmother. This year is a little different though, as her Grandmother is hurt and cannot accompany her. Accompanied by a bag full of surprises, woodland friends and jolly elves, Janice relives happy memories as she rides the train to Christmas Town once again. We met many characters from the book on our trip to Christmas Town.  Here is Wabash the Squirrel.
He was dancing all around and giving high fives to the kids.
Here is Zephyr the Depot Cat.
He was John's favorite.
And my favorite Bumblebee the Polar Bear.  I even got a hug from him.
Here he is playing peek-a-boo with Lauren.
We arrived at Christmas Town!  There is Santa to greet us!
On the way back the kids got books that had Christmas Carols in them and everyone was singing.
Then Santa boarded the train to see all of the kids.  He even gave them cool Whistles that say Train to Christmas Town.
Getting a thumbs up from Santa is always a good thing!
Here is some video highlights of our journey:
The kids blowing their whistles.
On Friday, November 15th, the Cape Cod Central Railroad welcomed nearly 600 First Responders and their family members aboard!  They had suggested a $5 donation per person that evening. At 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16th, the Cape Cod Central Railroad donated the entire amount collected on Friday to the Bourne Professional Firefighters (1717) “Homeless for the Holidays” fundraiser.
What a beautiful train and a magical ride.  I highly suggest taking your little ones on the Train to Christmas Town.  We had a wonderful time and I know you will too.
