12/5/14: MythBusters Behind the Myths

This week we were lucky enough to go to MythBusters Behind the Myths at The Hanover Theatre in Worcester, MA.  In our house, we love the show MythBusters.  It is a great mix of the scientific process, learning, and some pretty cool explosions.  The live show consists of the stars of the show Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage talking to the audience about some science, previous Myths and even a question and answer time.  Being a parent with a degree in Aerospace Engineering I like that my son loves this show and couldn't wait to go.  The live show is great for the whole family but remember their famous words "Don't try this at home!".
It was fun seeing pieces of the show come to life by seeing Jamie and Adam live.  There was even a time during the show where there was a question and answer time with Jamie where audience members could ask him anything.  Here you can see Adam lying on a bed of nails with a cinder block on top of him that Jamie happily swung at and broke.  The cool thing is that they always talk about the science behind everything.
The tour is still going on and you can see the full set of dates here on their site.  Evan was beyond excited to see Adam and Jamie.
There were many times when people from the audience were called up to help out.  There were many waivers like this one out in the audience and if you found one on you chair you could hold it up when they asked for volunteers.  Unfortunately Evan didn't participate but he was excited to have the waiver.
They had one episode where they came out in Star Wars outfits and tested when Princess Leia was swung across on a rope with Jamie holding her to see if it was possible.  They came out after intermission wearing their Star Wars gear.
Adam admitted that most of the costumes were from his personal collection.
They did many on-stage experiments through the show and also had some cool videos.  I particularly liked the combination of many videos from items they had blown up.  Thanks to their sound system you really heard the booms and felt the rumble.
