7/15/16: Mary Poppins at the North Shore Music Theatre

Our family always waits with anticipation for the family musical at the North Shore Music Theatre (NSMT) and this year Mary Poppins was amazing!  The whole cast was fabulous and I have been singing  Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious since I left the theater.  This is the perfect theater to take the whole family to as there are no bad seats as all rows are close to the stage.  Read till the end and I will disclose the family show for 2017.
I can't say enough about the production value of the North Shore Theatre.  Every time I attend a show at this theatre I am just blown away at how well they bring the whole production to life.  From the second you enter the theatre and see the chimneys positioned around the theatre and the display screens you know you are in for something special.

Kerry Conte was perfection as Mary Poppins.  Her voice was amazing, and her acting was on point.  All the way down to her feet being turned out as she came in on her umbrella.  Her dancing, acting and voice were spectacular.  Brad Bradley played Bert and I was a little concerned as living up to Dick Van Dyke is a very difficult task.  I was very impressed at how well Brad did with this part.
The two musical numbers that were my favorites were Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and Step in Time.  The spelling out of the letters of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious was amazing in a dance number.  Step in Time was fantastic.  There was lot of tap dancing which I love and the whole number was so fun to watch.  I also enjoy that the actors are all around you and come up through the aisles.  During Step in Time we had one of the chimney sweeps right behind us.
Let's Go Fly a Kite is another one of my favorites.  They had kites flying on stage.  There was one tiny mishap when trying to make the first kite go up but the actors recovered quickly.  The little girl and boy were wonderful in the show.  It was unbelievable how much they had to remember.  Scarlett Keene-Connole played Jane Banks and Jake Ryan Flynn played Michael Banks.
Molly Garner who played Winifred Banks had a beautiful voice.  James Andrew Walsh played George Banks and played the role well of the uptight banker who finally realizes what is important.
There were so many funny moments and who doesn't love the song "A Spoonful of Sugar"?
You could really feel the connection between the characters.
When we were there opening night the cast received a standing ovation and it was very well deserved.  What a wonderful production for the whole family!
This show runs until July 31st so get your tickets now.  Here is a video preview of the show:
