Go See The Big Apple Circus at Assembly Row

Yesterday we had the pleasure of seeing Big Apple Circus in Boston at Assembly Row, Somerville and it was amazing!  It is their 40th Anniversary Season and I feel like the show was better than ever!  There were acts in the show that did things that you have never seen before!  Get your tickets now as they are in town until May 6th with multiple shows on some days.  The perfect outing for a family during April Vacation.

The wonderful thing about this show is that no seat is further than 50 feet from the ring.  The intimate setting is perfect for kids to see all the action.  Plus you can get a great seat for a great price.

Some of our favorite acts were Nik Wallenda and The Fabulous Wallendas doing their famous seven-person pyramid on the high wire!

We always love the horses and ponies.  They are so majestic.  Jenny Vidbel, performs in the ring with 16 horses and ponies.

 They are so cute!  There were also pony rides during intermission.

 You can tell they love her.

 Beautiful!

 She also performs with rescue dogs which is a real crowd pleaser!

There was also a daring quadruple somersault done on the trapeze by The Flying Tunizianis.  Only 9 people in the world can do this.

 
Award-winning contortionist Elayne Kramer did things that I had never seen before.

She even used a bow and arrow and shot a balloon with her feat!

The master juggler Gamal Garcia was awesome.

 Jan Damm on the Rola Bola was amazing too.

 
 
Last but not least was the Risley acrobats The Anastasini Brothers (who broke the World Record for Most Flips on November 9, 2017).

The show was led by Ringmaster Ty McFarlan and had fun little interludes with two clowns.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC features music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, suggested by The Trapp Family Singers by Maria Augusta Trapp. The beloved musical story of Maria and the von Trapp Family will once again thrill audiences with its Tony®, Grammy® and Academy Award®–winning Best Score, including “My Favorite Things,” “Edelweiss” and the title song. THE SOUND OF MUSIC enjoyed extraordinary success as a live television production when “The Sound of Music Live!” aired on NBC in December, 2013 and was seen by over 44 million people. 2015 marked the 50th anniversary of the film version, which continues to be the most successful movie musical in history.

The creative team for this new production includes direction by Matt Lenz, based on the national tour’s original direction by three-time Tony Award® winner Jack O’Brien (Hairspray, The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Coast of Utopia). Original choreography by Danny Mefford (Dear Evan Hansen, Fun Home, The Bridges of Madison County, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) has been recreated by Jonathan Warren, with music supervision by Andy Einhorn (Hello, Dolly!, Bullets Over Broadway, Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella, The Light in the Piazza). 

The design and production team is comprised of Tony Award® nominee Douglas W. Schmidt, set design (The Front Page,42nd Street, Into the Woods); Tony Award® winner Jane Greenwood, costume design (The Little Foxes, 2014 Special Tony Award® for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre), six-time Tony Award® winner Natasha Katz, lighting design (Long Day’s Journey Into Night, An American in Paris, Once, Aida, The Coast of Utopia, The Glass Menagerie) and Shannon Slaton, sound design (Present Laughter, The Humans). Casting is by Stewart/Whitley.

Town Fair Tire World of Wheels

Last weekend we were able to attend Town Fair Tire World of Wheels in Boston at the Seaport World Trade Center.  They are celebrating their 44th year!  The show floor was packed with so many muscle cars, trucks, restored cars and motorcycles.  Plus there were special meet and greets each day.

 Evan loves checking out cars.  Whenever we pass an auto show or classic cars somewhere he always makes us stop to look.  This was the perfect event for us to go to so we could take our time and check out all the cars.  We spent about two hours there looking around.  It is a great place to go with the family.  They had a snack bar too if you wanted to get food.  There was also convenient parking right across the street for $22 for the whole day.

 Love this car.  Plus the cool lighting.

They also had the cars of the Fast and Furious on display which was really cool.

 I love the color of this car, such a beauty.

Of course Town Fair Tire had lots of wheels there to check out.

 The cars were gorgeous.

Outside of the ring, Big Apple Circus continues to honor the essential and iconic characteristics that have set it apart for the past four decades, with multiple community outreach programs and a vital no-wild-animals policy. Circus of the Senses, which will take place on Wednesday, April 11 at 11:00 am, offers specially enhanced experiences for audiences who are deaf, blind, deaf/blind, visually impaired, or have cognitive or developmental challenges. The special performances include ASL interpretation, live audio description, pre- and post-show touch experiences, and a Braille program book. On Sunday, April 8 at 12:00 pm, Big Apple Circus Embraces Autism, a sensory-friendly performance for autistic audience members, will feature lowered light and sound levels, a descriptive social story, and a professionally staffed “calming center” that can be accessed at any point during the show. 

 The Big Apple Circus 40th Anniversary season is directed by Mark Lonergan, artistic director of three-time Drama Desk Award-nominated physical theater company Parallel Exit, with choreography and associate direction by Antoinette DiPietropolo and music direction by Rob Slowik. Tony Award-winning lighting designer Jeff Croiter (Peter and the Starcatcher, Something Rotten!), scenic designers Rob Bissinger (Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, Legally Blonde – Assoc) and Anita LaScala (Magic Mike Live) of ARDA Studio, Inc., and Drama Desk-nominated costume designer Amy Clark (Heathers: The Musical, Chaplin) come together to create a most vibrant environment to fit the momentous occasion of the circus’s return.

The Magic of Adam Trent in Boston, MA

I love MAGIC! I had always watched David Copperfield and went to see his live show so I was excited to see a new magician come to Boston for a show. Adam Trent was at the Boch Center Shubert Theatre and the show was awesome! 

I love the interactive approach to his show with audience participation. He really was entertaining not only with magic, but with music and comedy. There was even a robot! I feel like his show would appeal to a younger demographic in addition to adults. I don't want to give away an of his tricks but many were amazing and I especially liked his close up magic! He did one trick with the whole audience involved that blew my mind!
