11/15/13: Science or Magic Tricks with Physics

I have always loved Science and even went to school for Aerospace Engineering.  My son has the same love for science but he enjoys magic also.  In some ways science can seem like magic so when we received Science or Magic? Tricks with Physics by Thames & Kosmos I knew he would love it.
This kit gives kids a fun way to learn principles of physics by performing magic tricks for the crowd.
The set comes with 20 easy tricks for kids to perform.  IT also contains small cardboard theater, props, tickets, and flyers for your magic show. The 48-page, full-color, comic-book style manual guides you through the preparation and performance.
One of the first tricks we tried was with magnets.
 Wow it is levitating!
Evan thought this was super cool.  Basically you show the crowd the magnet when they are attracted and then take one off and turn it around.  Low and behold it levitates!
Another trick we tried was resting a balloon on a bed of nails without popping it.  Note that the pump wasn't included.
It comes with all the tacks and props for this one.  Here is Evan putting the thumb tacks in to the cardboard.
 Will it break???
No it didn't!  Magic or Science?
Additional tricks include gravity-defying water, magically puncturing an apple with a flimsy plastic straw, a magical funnel that won’t let water through, disappearing water, a magical balancing butterfly, levitating a funnel on a string, a magic box that makes objects disappear, and many more.
Fun demonstrations include: What falls faster, a feather or a heavy weight? Can you blow bubbles into two glasses of water at the same time? Can you make a water balloon rise up on its own from the bottom of a tub of water?
What a super fun and great learning tool for kids.
