3/16/15: School Art Show

Last week we had our annual Art Show at school and it was a huge success with 60 pieces of art from grades kindergarten to fifth grade.  I have been running the art show since Evan was in kindergarten so this was my fifth time running it.  The kids were great helping me out by handing out programs.

Both kids did an awesome job making art pieces.  They both competed in the 3 dimensional category.  Evan loves Minecraft so he decided to do a creeper.  He individually glued all of those pieces of paper on to it.

Lauren loves Frozen so she decided to make an Olaf.  He turned in to Olaf in summer as he was melting away and a bit large.  He sort of scared me every time I came around the corner and saw him in our dining room.

We have judges come in that are artists in town and judge the art.  I don't know how they do it, as I loved all the kids artwork.  Evan won in the fourth grade for 3 dimensional.

Now a question I have for you is how do you judge if the student made the art?  I had a parent approach me and complain about this on one piece and how do you determine if it is true.  The same goes for a school project that a parent has done for a child.  Do teachers ever send home a project questioning if it was made by the student?  In my mind it is a school art show and the rules are in the registration that the art piece must be done by the student in the last year.  If the student has not made it they have to live with the fact that it was not created by them.  Plus as I always say, I am volunteering and running the art show out of the goodness of my own heart.  I am happy to have others become involved and help run it too if they would like things done differently.  But in general the people who complain the most are generally the ones that never volunteer to help.

3/14/14: School Art Show

Last night was our school Art Show.  Both kids participated in the Art Show and we even got a visit from our school mascot.  

This was my fourth time running the Art Show.  I started when Evan was in Kindergarten.  Both kids participated and both won this year!!!

Here is Evan with his 3 Dimensional piece, Mine Crusia.  It is a Mine Craft inspired boat.

Lauren made a Despicable Minion.  I taught her how to use Paper Mache to make it which was lots of fun.

We had 56 artists participate in the show.

Then we setup all the winners in the hallway outside the Art Room.  All of the kids did a fabulous job and I am lucky to have such great volunteers to have such a wonderful event!

3/23/13: Lauren Wins The Town-Wide Art Show

Today was our Town-Wide Art Show for all six elementary schools in town.  Lauren won at our elementary school so her piece moved on to the Town-Wide and we were very excited that she won today.  I coordinated the Art Show at our school and did all the setup for the Town-Wide.  The Art these kids make is amazing.

 So glad another Art Show is done and was so successful.

3/14/13: School Art Show

Tonight was our school's Art Show which I have been running for the last three years.  This year I had both Lauren and Evan in the show as Lauren is now in Kindergarten and Evan is in 2nd Grade.  It was a wonderful night and I am always so overwhelmed at how talented the kids at our school are.  The art was amazing and I did not envy the judge's job to pick the winners.  I absolutely love checking out how creative our students can be.

 Evan loves the Titanic.  So of course when it came to his Art Piece that was the first thing he thought of.  I thought it looked awesome.

 Lauren decided to make a Hello Kitty.  We had a lot of fun making it as the head was too big at first and Hello Kitty looked really scary.  We laughed away as she worked on it.

 It was a wonderful turn out and we had 70 entries in the show.  We had a dessert reception and it was great hearing everyone go around and comment on all of the art pieces.

 Evan was a huge help with handing out programs and also helped me and my volunteers with Art setup.

 Lauren was thrilled as she won.  She will now move on to the Town-Wide Art Show.

 Evan needed some cheering up.  He didn't win but he had tough competition.  We loved his art piece and as I said the judges had a hard time picking winners.

 What a wonderful night!  I hope everyone had a great time, I know I did.

3/6/12: Art Show at School

Last night was the Art Show at Evan's elementary school for ages K-5.  This is my second year being lucky enough to run this event for the school and it was very well received. 

Evan loves Angry Birds so we decided to build his Art Piece around that.  The title is "Angry Birds Dreaming of Recess".  They are in school but are dreaming of flying through the air during Recess.

 Here he is all excited as we setup.  We ran the Art Show and Talent Show a little differently this year but I think it was for the best.  Usually the two are combined but this year we separated it out to give the Art participants more attention.  The Art Show was well attended and we had desserts for people plus I got to announce every artist and then announce the winners.

 Here is Mommy comforting Evan after the winners were announced.  He didn't win but I do know he was close.  Everyone is a winner in my book and should all be applauded for participating.

 Evan with his certificate.  This is after he knew he didn't win so it was harder to get a smile out of him.  He was really disappointed, but we kept telling him to just enjoy how all the people walking by loved it.

  We had 60 artists participate.  Here is our displays for K-2.  There were more on the other wall for 3-5.  Thank goodness for great volunteers that helped me setup for the show.

3/19/11: Evan's 1st Town-Wide Art Show

Today Evan got to participate in the Town-Wide Art Show with all 6 elementary schools from Billerica. Here he is with his ribbon. Here was my post from the Ditson Art Show.

Here are all the Ditson kids. As the Emcee stated, these children are all winners, as they all won for their own schools to move on to the town-wide show. The Art was very impressive by all the children. Evan didn't win today, but we are very proud of the effort he put in.
Evan was the first one to be announced on the stage to get his ribbon. I helped line the children up for them to go on to the stage. There was one scared little kindergartener that I had to walk on the stage. She was adorable. I also setup the Art yesterday and transported it from the Ditson which was interesting with all the wind. The penguins almost flew away in Penguin Migration, and the Rocket almost blasted off in Blast Off!
