9/24/14: Yankee Doodle Parade Fun

In our town we have a Yankee Doodle Weekend Celebration every year.  This year the theme was "Athletics In Our Community" and our elementary school was well represented.  I co-chaired the parade float build and our bee Buzzy joined us for the fun.

Our float featured some sports equipment, our Bee and the school theme of "Be the Best You Can Bee at the Ditson Elementary".

We had over 100 students, families, and staff march with our float dressed in athletic or Ditson clothing.

Evan was excited to hold the banner.

I also gave all the kids sports whistles and necklaces that they had fun blowing.

Our float ready to go.  We spent two night building it with a bunch of parent volunteers.  Plus the kids painted the signs.

What a great day for everyone.  The weather was perfect and we had a fun time!  As the PTO President I am happy to have one event in the books as complete.

3/14/14: School Art Show

Last night was our school Art Show.  Both kids participated in the Art Show and we even got a visit from our school mascot.  

This was my fourth time running the Art Show.  I started when Evan was in Kindergarten.  Both kids participated and both won this year!!!

Here is Evan with his 3 Dimensional piece, Mine Crusia.  It is a Mine Craft inspired boat.

Lauren made a Despicable Minion.  I taught her how to use Paper Mache to make it which was lots of fun.

We had 56 artists participate in the show.

The Bee especially liked seeing himself showcased in this Art Piece which was done by one of Lauren's friends.

Lauren with her ribbon and winning Minion.  The hands are a fundraiser.  We charge $1 each and you can put notes on them to the artists.  We give this money to the town's Partners for Education.

Then we setup all the winners in the hallway outside the Art Room.  All of the kids did a fabulous job and I am lucky to have such great volunteers to have such a wonderful event!

12/18/13: 'Twas the Mice Before Christmas

Today was Lauren's Holiday Show at school for her 1st Grade class.  It was called 'Twas the Mice Before Christmas and was super cute!  Here is her class ready for the show.

Here is Lauren with her teacher.  We love her teacher who Evan also had when he was in 1st grade.  I have learned she wrote this play in her early teaching career.  It is the view of the 'Twas the Night Before Christmas from the Mice.  I love it, so creative!

 Here are some of the mice.  You can see Lauren in the middle in the front row.  Ironically I was a rat in my first school show of The Pied Piper.

 All the kids were super cute and you could tell how excited they were.

 Lauren even had a special part in the end thanking everyone for coming and thanking the music person and janitors.  She did great and spoke really loud so everyone could hear her.

 What a great show!  Awesome job to the teachers and students!  These are the wonderful experiences they will always remember.

10/6/13: Ditson Open Golf Clinic

Today we participated in the Ditson Open Golf Clinic for kids.  The kids had so much fun learning in three stations of Golf Instruction and got to have ice cream after.  Plus we raised a lot of money for the school.  There was also a Golf Tournament going on for the adults.  What is not to love?

Lauren really got in to it and had a lot of fun golfing. 

Despite a little rain all the kids had fun.  Evan love it.

 Evan was excited as the ball he got had Mickey Mouse on it.  I was happy myself as I love Mickey!

 After the tournament there was food and a raffle.  I sold tickets at the raffle and we were lucky enough to win some items.  Evan was most excited about this Red Sox picture with coins in it that he won.

It is amazing how big the kids have gotten.  This was them at the 2011 Golf Clinic.

What a great time and a huge thanks to John LaFauci, Peter Gargalianos, John Aurilio and Rick Murgo for putting on a great event!

9/15/13: Yankee Doodle Parade "Celebrating Our Schools"

We had a wonderful time again at the Yankee Doodle Parade representing the Ditson School.  The theme of the Parade was "Celebrating Our Schools".

It was nice that our Principal was one of the Grand Marshalls with all the other Principals.

 My husband, kids and I all helped with the float.  Here are the kids that helped out.

I think my kids like the preparation the most.

 Plus I love that they make the float their own by painting and adding glitter.

 When I asked Evan over the summer what he was most looking forward to for back to school, he answered being in the Yankee Doodle Parade.  He was very excited to carry the banner.

Our float was awesome again thanks to my friends Cindi and Elaine who did a wonderful job creating and organizing it.  I am Co-President of the Ditson School Association and I feel responsible that all of our events go off well.  I am lucky to have wonderful chair-people to run these events.

Plus a huge thanks to Crescio Trucking that allowed us to use their truck as our float.
