LEGOLAND Discovery Center Star Wars MINILAND Grand Opening

We love going to LEGOLAND Discovery Center Boston!  It is a ton of fun for the whole family.  What I love is that they are constantly changing things up.  We were lucky enough to go to the grand opening of the Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones MINILAND!

The event started with a ribbon cutting for this new area.  It is replacing the Ninjago area.  There were lots of members of the 501st, a local Star Wars fan group for picture opportunities.

We then got to enter the new exhibit which has the First Battle of Geonosis in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Each display will recreate favorite scenes in Star Wars™ Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Fans will marvel at the replicas of a Gladiator-style battle between Jedi and Geonosians on Geonosis, Jango Fett Clones lining up on Kamino, Jango Fett battling Anakin Skywalker featuring Slave Ship 1 and Boba Fett, plus many more.  Here is a preview!

It is amazing the detail and how many pieces are used to build these depictions.

I was almost forgetting these are all made of LEGOs.

I also love the MINILAND when you enter, and you can spot some Star Wars favorites there too.  Make sure to look closely.

I love that they always customize this area.  At Halloween they had Halloween costumed characters throughout MINILAND.  Check out how Boston has changed. 

I love this area so much.  It is so beautiful as it changes from day to night.

Evan loves making and racing cars.  He spent so much time in this area. 

There are also two rides and a 3D theater.  They cycle through different short movies.

We loved The LEGO Movie so I knew we would have fun at a media event at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Boston at Assembly Square, Somerville to introduce The LEGO Movie 4D A New Adventure.  A cool new movie and playing with LEGOs!  Evan and his friend couldn't wait to go!  Plus I am giving you a chance to win a family 4 pack of tickets to go to LEGOLAND Discovery Center Boston and see the new movie!  Everything is awesome!

The new movie was great.  It is a continuation after the original LEGO Movie.  All of your favorite characters are there in larger than life 4D!  The excitement is all around you with some exciting surprises.  Just be aware that there will be some water and bubbles involved.  The kids were loving it!

Written by Adam Pava (writer of “The Boxtrolls”) and co-written and directed by Rob Schrab (director of the sequel to “The LEGO Movie" debuting in 2018) “The LEGO Movie 4D A New Adventure” is bringing back some of the original voices including Elizabeth Banks (Wyldstyle), Alison Brie (Unikitty), Nick Offerman (MetalBeard) and Charlie Day (Benny) and will introduce a new villain, “Risky Business,” voiced by Patton Oswalt. 

“The LEGO Movie 4D A New Adventure” follows a new journey for Emmet, Wyldstyle, Unikitty, Benny and MetalBeard after they receive a mysterious invitation leading them to a new theme park where all of the rides are based on the characters’ adventures in “The LEGO Movie.”  But not all is as it seems as the heroes are once again thrust into the middle of an evil secret plot, only this time, it will be up to the audience to use their Master Builder skills to help save them! Using elements such as wind, water and special lighting effects, the larger-than-life experience brings the film’s main characters, Emmet and Wyldstyle, back together with their friends for another awesome adventure.

There are a few different LEGO movies that run every half hour continuously.  The movie is about 14 minutes long.  Here is a quick trailer:

While we were there we could explore all of the LEGOLAND Discovery Center.  My favorite part is exploring in Miniland.

It was super cool as the characters from the LEGO Movie had invaded Miniland.  You could find scenes from the movie all throughout Miniland.

We also tried out the Ninjago Training Area.  This has a maze with lasers that you need to go through after picking your level.

This is the main Discovery area where there is so much to do.

Evan and his friend spent the most time making LEGO Racers.  They loved it!  They kept changing their vehicles and racing them again.

Of course there are log of LEGO people all around.

There is also a Duplo Farm area for little kids.

Another cute area with Karaoke and play area.

The kids also love this play area.  Make sure your kids wear socks as you need them for this area.

The kids could really spend an hour in here.  They loved it!

Plus there are two rides.  We went on Kingdom Quest which allows you to shoot at villains as you play through the game.  I beat both of the boys!

Here is another ride called Merlin's Apprentice Ride.  You pedal to go up in the air. 

There are also facilities for parties.  Here is the inside of one of the rooms.  They have two rooms.

I highly suggest going there for some fun!  Just watch out your kids might turn in to LEGO people.

8/7/15: The Crayola Experience in Easton PA

We recently took a whirlwind trip to Pennsylvania.  The first location we visited was The Crayola Experience in Easton, PA.  It offers four floors of some unique colorful fun for kids.

The front of the building is really cool with large markers and crayons.

There are larger than life crayons.

Where else can you see the World's Largest Crayon?  This crayon which was created in 2003 weighs 1,500 pounds and is 15 feet long.  123,000 blue crayons were collected from around the country to make this crayon.  This in on the first floor in addition to a Cafe, Gift Shop, and the entrance.

We started out on the 2nd floor in the Wrap It Up! area which allows kids to pick a color of crayon and select an image and name to print on their crayon label.  You put a token in the machine of your desired color crayon and the digital display steps you through picking the image and name you would like on your label.  The machine then dispenses the label and crayon and you roll the label on to the crayon.

Right next to that area is the Modeling Madness area.  There are vending machines with Crayola Model Magic and kids can use the model magic along with tools to make designs and molds.

We then headed to the Crayola Factory theater to learn more about Crayola crayons and how they are made.  There is a little demonstrations and animated crayons talk about what happens.  Did you know that since 1903 Crayola has made more than 600 colors?

The 2nd Floor also has some digital interactive exhibits.  Here you can see Evan making a shark.

Once you make your creation you can release it in to the digital wall display.  Here is Lauren with hers.  There are options to duplicate the image as you can see with hers.

We then headed up the 3rd floor and went to the Water Works area.  This area has little Crayola shaped boats that kids control going through a water table.

This area was well organized with a line to obtain boats.  Once kids received their boats they could start going down the one way waterway.

I loved that there were different ways to get the boats through the water.  Here you see a crank area with a hill.

There were also locks where you could lower or raise the boats to the right water level to keep moving along the waterway.

From there we headed to the play climbing area.

Kids could spend a long time in here playing and sliding down the slide.  We had to finally call our kids so we could move on.

There is also a Toddler play area for little kids.

The 4th Floor had more places to create.  When you walk up there is an area where you can make a molded crayon by picking a color and picking a mold of either a dinosaur, ring, or crayon looking character.  Lauren chose a ring.

There is also a drip art and meltdown activity here where it makes a splattered design of crayons.  There are also many areas where you can color an image and then have it transferred to a shirt or canvas.

 This is the other side of the building.  So super cute.

I would highly suggest visiting.  They have other locations in Minneapolis, MN and Orlando, FL.  It is a great value for several hours of fun.  Regular admission for Adults and Children is $18.99 however if you buy tickets online it is only $16.99.
